Share of publicly listed phone numbers that are also registered on the National Do-Not-Call List (DNCL), broken down by province and area code.

Method: Coverage = (Phonebook numbers also on DNCL) ÷ Phonebook numbers × 100 — i.e. the share of publicly listed numbers in each area unreachable due to DNCL.

Share of publicly listed phone numbers that are on the National Do-Not-Call List, broken down by area code.

How to read this

A CRTC LNNTE/DNCL subscription is $3,218 per area code, per year, or $62,166 per year for all of Canada. Fees are set by the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission).

For each area code we divide that fee by the number of publicly listed phone numbers that are not on the DNCL — i.e. the leads you can legally call. Area codes where this works out to under $1 per callable lead receive a green “Worth it” pill; the rest are shown separately below with a red pill.

This is informational guidance only. Your actual return depends on your conversion rate, lead value, calling cadence and other factors specific to your business. Telelisting publishes this analysis as a transparency tool; subscription decisions are entirely yours, and Telelisting accepts no liability for outcomes derived from these figures.

Notes

  • Area codes 782 and 902 are shared between Nova Scotia and PEI — they can’t be split without the prefix.
  • Area code 867 covers all three northern territories (Yukon, NWT, Nunavut).
  • Area codes 500 and 600 are non-geographic NANP service access codes (personal/wireless services), not tied to a province.

Key Takeaways

  • About 46% of all phonebook-listed numbers nationwide are on the DNCL.
  • Major established codes (905, 519, 613, 416, 450, 819) all sit at 50%+ — half of listed residential lines are off-limits.
  • Newer overlay codes (343, 365, 437, 226, 587, 778) show low coverage (1–18%) because DNCL signups skew toward older household landlines that dominate the phonebook’s original codes.
  • DNCL totals exceed Phonebook totals because the DNCL also covers cell/mobile numbers that aren’t in the public phonebook.
